What Is Your Witch Archetype

In every woman lives a witch. Not the broomstick-riding, cauldron-stirring caricature—but a deeply intuitive, powerful, and mysterious force of nature. Whether you’re conjuring protection with herbs, whispering to the moon, or setting boundaries with a single look, your witch archetype speaks to your soul’s ancient rhythm.

In this blog companion to The Dark Raven Witch Presents: What Is Your Witch Archetype? we’ll dive deeper into a few of the archetypes I shared on the podcast—uncovering their sacred gifts, shadows, and ways to connect more deeply with the energy that calls to you.

Why Archetypes Matter in Witchcraft

Witch archetypes are spiritual blueprints. They’re not rigid roles, but rather mirrors that reflect your magic. By understanding your core archetype, you:

Align more easily with rituals and tools that resonate

Embrace your shadow self and strengths

Create deeper authenticity in your craft and spiritual life

Let’s explore who you might be…

The Traditional Witch

Element: Earth & Spirit
Ruling Season: Samhain
Power Words: Lineage, Discipline, Devotion

The Traditional Witch walks the old path. Grounded in historical witchcraft, folklore, and ancestral practices, she often works with the land spirits, local deities, and spirits of place. Her craft is disciplined, study-based, and deeply rooted in heritage and history.

You Might Be a Traditional Witch If...

You study historical grimoires, folk magic, or occult texts
You observe the sabbats with reverence and ritual
You feel a strong connection to ancestral practices or the land you live on
Tools of the Trade: Handwritten grimoires, stangs, iron tools, bones, charms, bundles of herbs, protective wards, spirit work.
The Traditional Witch may work with specific spirits, gods, or family lines of power. Unlike Chaos or Eclectic Witches, she follows a lineage—whether blood or spiritual. She’s a bridge between past and present, keeping the flame of old magic alive in the modern world.

The Cosmic Witch

Element: Air
Ruling Season: Spring
Power Words: Divine, Observe, Connect

Celestial energy is your lifeblood. Cosmic Witches work with planetary magic, astrology, numerology, and cosmic alignments. You see patterns in the sky and messages in the stars.

You Might Be a Cosmic Witch If...

You track moon phases religiously

You live by your birth chart and feel planetary transits deeply

You use star maps or sigils in your spells

Tools of the Trade: Moon calendar, star tarot decks, crystals like labradorite, astrology apps.

The Green Witch

Element: Earth
Ruling Season: Summer
Power Words: Grow, Commune, Heal

Wild, rooted, and intuitive, the Green Witch communes with the spirit of plants, trees, and nature itself. She sees the divine in the weeds and the medicine in the moss.

You Might Be a Green Witch If...

You talk to your plants (and they thrive!)

You make your own teas, tinctures, or oils

You prefer outdoor rituals and feel most alive in nature

Tools of the Trade: Dried herbs, mortar and pestle, pressed flowers, plant spirits, moss jars.

The Satanic Witch

Element: Fire & Earth
Ruling Season: Mid-Winter (Capricorn Season vibes)
Power Words: Rebel, Empower, Self-Deify

Often misunderstood, the Satanic Witch is not about worshiping an external devil—but rather honoring the self as divine. She is intellectual, powerful, and radically independent. Rooted in modern Satanism (like that of LaVeyan or The Satanic Temple), this archetype uses ritual and symbolism to break from control, honor the ego, and master reality.

You Might Be a Satanic Witch If...

You reject dogma and question everything

You practice magic as psychodrama and empowerment

You identify with the archetype of Lucifer as the Lightbringer, not evil

Tools of the Trade: Black altar cloths, sigils of Baphomet, mirrors, ritualized affirmations, symbolism for rebellion and individual will.

The Chaos Witch

Element: Air & Fire
Ruling Season: Eclipse Season
Power Words: Disrupt, Reprogram, Innovate

A practitioner of chaos magick, this witch breaks traditional rules and crafts a highly personalized, ever-shifting practice. Chaos Witches thrive on results—not tradition—and view belief itself as a tool, not a truth. They can shapeshift their magickal paths, blending symbols, tech, and raw intention into wildly effective spellwork.

You Might Be a Chaos Witch If...

You believe belief itself is magic

You use pop culture in your rituals

You experiment, disrupt, and trust intuition over dogma

Tools of the Trade: Sigils, pop culture deities, memes, digital magic, entropy symbols, journaling experiments.

The Grey Witch

Element: All
Ruling Season: Equinox (Spring or Fall)
Power Words: Balance, Boundaries, Duality

Grey Witches walk the middle path—not bound by “white” or “black” labels. They understand that nature, magic, and people are complex. They may hex or heal, depending on what the situation calls for. Their morality is nuanced, intuitive, and sovereign.

You Might Be a Grey Witch If...

You don’t believe magic is good or evil—only intention

You’re not afraid to defend yourself spiritually

You blend light and shadow work in your craft

Tools of the Trade: Dual-colored candles, reflective surfaces, shadow/herbal blends, justice work, balance sigils.

The Kitchen Witch

Element: Earth & Fire
Ruling Season: Late Autumn into Winter (think hearth and harvest)
Power Words: Nourish, Bless, Infuse

The Kitchen Witch blends the mystical and the mundane, turning everyday cooking into spellwork. She knows that food is medicine, and meals can be magic. Stirring intention into soups, enchanting tea, baking abundance into loaves—her altar is her countertop.

You Might Be a Kitchen Witch If...

You bless your food before you eat

You have a spice cabinet that doubles as an apothecary

You feel most connected when preparing meals, drinks, or herbal brews

Tools of the Trade: Wooden spoons, cauldrons or pots, herbal infusions, cinnamon sticks, honey jars, enchanted recipes, ancestral cooking.
Kitchen Witches often overlap with Hearth Witches, but the Kitchen Witch is more spell-focused in the act of cooking itself, turning every meal into a ritual. If your sacred space is your kitchen—and you love crafting love, prosperity, or protection into every dish—this archetype may be calling to you.

Putting It All Together

With  archetypes, your spiritual path becomes a living tapestry of energies. Some witches walk a single path their whole life. Others evolve, embodying different archetypes through seasons of personal transformation.

Here’s how to deepen your work:

Mix & match: Your archetype can evolve over time. You may be a Cosmic Grey Witch now and a Green Kitchen Witch Witch during another season.

Anchor in ritual: Create a daily or weekly check-in with your archetype—journal, meditate, or pull a card that reflects its energy.

Empower your identity: Your archetype is sacred. Let it infuse your fashion, your home, your spells—even your business or relationships.

How to Work with Your Archetype

Embrace, don’t limit: You may resonate with more than one archetype. Most witches embody 2–3 primary energies.

Build your altar around it: Decorate with colors, crystals, tools, and symbols that reflect your archetype.

Create rituals that feel natural: Don’t force tools or methods. Let your archetype guide your practice.

Bonus Ritual: Archetype Invocation Spell

Want to activate your inner witch? Try this simple ritual tonight:

You’ll need:

A candle in your archetype’s color (or white)

A mirror

A pen and paper

Ritual Steps:

1. Light the candle and face the mirror.

2. Say: “I see the witch within me. I honor her essence, her power, her purpose.”

3. Write down your archetype(s) and three ways you’ll honor her this moon cycle.

4. Close the ritual by blowing out the candle and saying, “So it is, and so it shall be.”

Remember…

Witchcraft isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s wild, winding, and rooted in your truth. Your archetype isn’t a label—it’s a compass. It points you home to your power.

So which witch are you?

Many Blessings J ❤️
